Thó Wiŋ is the literary magazine of Augsburg University in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, MN.

Thó Wiŋ (toh-ween), meaning “Blue Woman”, is a figure in the Dakota creation story who both delivers individuals to Earth and carries them away when they pass.

Augsburg University is built on stolen land. The Dakota and the Anishinaabe people are the original inhabitants of this land, and they remain the rightful stewards to this day. In 2021, our editorial board changed our magazine’s name to Thó Wiŋ to acknowledge this fact, as well as to amplify marginalized voices in the publishing industry and to break from imperialist project-building in some way, however small. Art—in all its forms—has long been a vector of subversion and resistance pointing toward liberation, and we at Thó Wiŋ Magazine aim to ground ourselves in and face the future from that radical tradition.

Our Mission

Since its creation, the Thó Wiŋ Magazine has been dedicated to publishing the creative endeavors of Augsburg’s students and staff members. Whether literary, visual, or musical arts, it is the intention of the magazine to celebrate and uplift every voice in our diverse community.

It is important to acknowledge that the land on which our institution now stands was stewarded by the Anishinaabe and Dakota people before us. We recognize their wisdom and their commitment to their community, and we intend to honor that in our own practice. In recognition of the Indigenous communities across the United States of America, we offer this land acknowledgement.
